The Governor's Ball is the annual fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Albuquerque Del Sol. It is a black tie optional ball whose theme this year is " A Pot of Gold for New Mexico's Children." Since the ball is on March 17th, 2012, it celebrates St. Patrick's Day with its green and gold decor. The current and past New Mexico governors are invited as are the Governors of New Mexico's many pueblos and tribes and also the District Governor of Rotary District 5520. The event draws between 450 and 500 people.
Proceeds go to help a number of children's charities in Albuquerque and New Mexico as well as the Rotary Del Sol Foundation. Since the Governor's Ball was established in 2004, over $500,000 has been distributed to New Mexico children's charities. A partial list of previous recipients include: Boys and Girls clubs, Noonday Ministries (Alex Fund), New Mexico boys & Girls Ranches, Boy Scouts of America (Southwest Council), and Cuidando los Ninos.
